Project Location:
The Cheyenne Ridge Wind Project is located approximately 15 miles North of Cheyenne Wells, Colorado. The project straddles the Cheyenne and Kit Carson County border.
Project Interconnection:
This project has multiple interconnection options. A 115kV transmission line runs North/South through the project and transmission lines with larger capacity are currently proposed for the region to transport energy back to the Front Range and areas farther West.
Project Size:
300-600 MW
Project Turbines:
GE 1.5 turbine or similar, subject to final engineering.
Landowners and Acreage Involved:
Cheyenne Ridge encompasses 100,000 acres and consists of over 50 landowners.
Commercial Operation:
Cheyenne Ridge will be built in phases. The commercial operation date for the first phase could be as early as 2011, while later phases will be dependent on future transmission lines.
Utility Buyers:
The power produced by Cheyenne Ridge Wind Project will be marketed to local and regional utilities.
Project Developer:
The developer of the Cheyenne Ridge Wind Project is TradeWind Energy, LLC (“TradeWind”), which is headquartered in Lenexa, Kansas. The senior managers of TradeWind have a combined 100 years experience in the independent power development business including acquisitions and project development across the United States, Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean, as well as significant regulated utility experience.
Key Project Attributes:
- If all phases are completed, Cheyenne Ridge will produce enough power for approximately 180,000 Colorado homes.
- Cheyenne Ridge is one of the most energetic wind development sites in Eastern Colorado.
- Over 50 landowners will be participating and collecting royalty payments from the project once all phases are completed.
- The project will utilize significant local labor and materials for its construction and operations and will generate significant economic benefits to the local community.
- The project fits well with the surrounding area in terms of the existing infrastructure and commercial activities and enjoys broad community support.
- Cheyenne Ridge, when completed, will offset approximately 1,800,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year, 6,000 tons of NOx per year, and 8,000 tons of SO2 per year.
